CROTON - The Northridge High School Jazz Band hosted another successful Derby Day on Saturday, May 5th at the Croton Church of Christ. The event started at 5 p.m. with appetizers, and dinner was at 5:30 p.m. Tickets were sold in advance at the high school office or at the door the day of the event.
Several ticket options were available, including the Triple Crown Ticket for $30, which gave the ticket holder admission to the concert, dinner, one cash raffle ticket and five pick-a-horse ticket. Tickets were also available just to the concert for $12 or a combination ticket to the dinner and the concert for $20. Tickets for children to attend the dinner and concert were available for $12.
Many people who attended dressed up in clothes similar to what is worn at the Derby, including bow ties and fascinator hats.
In addition to dinner and a jazz concert performed by the band, guests had the opportunity to participate in a variety of Kentucky Derby-themed games and activities during the evening. The highlight of the night was a cash raffle that totaled $500.
“We always look forward to this spring event and are thankful for the great support we always get from families and the community,” commented Director Tyler King. Overall this was a very successful event and everyone who attended had a wonderful time.
They hope to continue on doing this event for many more years to come and having a greater attendance each year. Jacob Chestnut (‘18) stated, “I was very excited to perform, and I enjoyed the festivities.”
The Jazz Band is looking forward to this event next year and are hoping that it will be even better than it was this year. Members said they also want to thank everyone for coming and support this wonderful event.
