Baseball has winning record at mid-season
By Brad Wilson
NORTHRIDGE - Viking baseball was given high expectations for the season with their nine
returning seniors. The team was off to a decent start opening against LCL rival Johnstown with a
victory. The Vikings went on to split their opening week with a record of 22. Senior Brad Wilson is out with an injury that he acquired in basketball season, but he had this to say about the season so far: “We have a lot of potential, and we have yet to hit our peak. We will be a threat in the postseason.”
Without Wilson, the Vikings’ pitching staff is running thin, but Andrew Hollis (‘15) and Clayton Nicks (‘15) have stepped up to the challenge, along with Nate Hiser (‘16).
“We have an exceptional group of young athletes on this team, and I’m very excited to see how we will finish our season,” said coach Jeff Wilson.
At the midpoint of their season, the Vikings are running in the middle of the pack for the league with a close to .500 record. All games that the baseball team has played have been very close games that could be won with a clutch play. This tells the players that they can beat anyone in the league.
“We have yet to play our best game, and when we do, it will be very tough to beat us,” says Andrew Hollis (‘15).
The Vikings look to end their season with a bang and a long playoff run.

Lacrosse recruiting at summer clinic
By Kaycee Campbell
NORTHRIDGE - Lady Vike Lacrosse players are hosting a clinic May 12-14 at the high school from 2:45- 4:15 right after school for grades 9-12 for two reasons: to give newcomers a chance to experience what, for many in this area, is an unknown sport, and the recruit players for next year. The clinic is free, and interested students can register by contacting the lacrosse coach at 740-404-4912 or [email protected]. Participants will need to wear tennis shoes/ cleats, and sportswear. Goggles and sticks will be provided.
Meanwhile, the lacrosse season is now nearly over. Although the team didn’t have quite the season they wanted, all of the girls are quick to say they really enjoy getting out there and playing the game.
The defensive players include: Daria Salzano (‘15), Amy Blumensheid (‘15), Emily Dalton (‘15), Ronni Fleshman (‘15), Kaylee McCormick (‘16), Desiree Ecleo (‘18)
The Offensive players include: Emma Dann (‘15), Donna Snyder (‘15), Morgan Hatten (‘16), Anita Shultz (‘16) Audrey Ashbrook (‘16), Megan Phillips (‘16), Leyna Varney (‘16), Haley Trimble (‘16), Kaycee Campbell (‘17) and Maddie Parrill (‘17).
The girls have spent countless hours practicing to improve their skills, and the returning underclassmen are in hopes of a better season next year!
“The team is all pretty close and it’s a great time and a lot of fun to play the game. Everyone gets a chance to prove themselves,” says Morgan Hatten (‘16).
The season will end with it’s final game on May 9th, which is also senior night and will be followed by the lacrosse banquet.
“The girls are so great, I love coaching them. I can’t wait to see how much they’ll improve next season,” says The Lady Vikes Lacrosse Coach Stacey Butler.

Viking track working hard
By Chad Campbell
It’s a season of learning for the Northridge track team. With new head coach Richard Featheringill and new assistant coaches Devoni Murphy and Nahum Massimer, the team is in the process of building numbers and new routines to try to be a tough competitor in the LCL.
“Since our numbers are a little down, we may not be winning as many meets as we did last year, but this is an important developmental year for the program” says Evan Wilkoski (’15).
Connor Wood adds (’15) adds, “Even though we aren’t winning many events or meets, we all love Coach Featheringill and are having a very fun season.”
“We all understand that it might take a few years to really build the program” says Wilkoski.
Vikings have been working very hard every day in practice to better themselves.
“Practices this year are very structured, and we spend a lot of time on conditioning. We are practicing on getting our handoffs perfect,” says Wilkoski.
The Northridge boys 4x100 relay team is one of the strongest relays they have on the team. It includes Wilkoski, Canden Chapman (’15), Wood, and Sam Doran (’16).
“Working on handoffs more is already helping us a lot and will hopefully help us get the school record by the end of the season” says Wood.
Some Vikings to look out for this year are Ellie Shedloski (’15) in the 100 meter dash and in long jump. For the boys, you should look out for Canden Chapman (’15) in the 100 meter dash and Evan Wilkoski in the 100 meter dash and high jump.

Softball season wrapping up
By: Mikaela Pankuch
NORTHRIDGE- Viking softball teams are finishing up with the first half of the Licking County League play.
Overall the Lady Vikings are 12-8 on the season. They are 7-7 in the Licking County League. With a
tough schedule, the Vikings look to finish the second half of the season strong. After beating Licking
Valley, the previous league champions, the softball team looks to improve each and every game.
“Preforming consistently is what our biggest problem seems to be right now,” says Megan Hatfield (’15)
of her team. “If we can do that, then the rest of our season should turn out the way we want it to.”
On April 21, the Vikings began the second half of their season with the varsity team away at Granville,
falling 8-3.
The varsity softball team is set to finish out the last week of the season starting with Watkins Memorial,
Licking Valley, and Licking Heights.
Senior night for the Vikings will be Friday, May 8, 2015 at 5 p.m. The Vikings will host the Licking Heights
Hornets in a league rematch on this day.
The Vikings will face either Madison Plains or Highland in the Division III state tournament on Thursday,
May 14, 2015.
