NORTHRIDGE- The soccer team at Northridge is wrapping up their season with a 6-10 record. Soccer supporters have been buzzing about the team’s performance since the start of the season.
Coached by Bruce Johnson and Matt Miracle, the Vikings have been working hard and improving throughout the season.
The team recently took home a win on Oct. 18 at their first tournament game. With less than a minute left, the Vikings scored a goal for a victory over Delaware Christian, ending the game with a score of 3-2. Coach Matt Miracle deemed this outstanding victory the highlight of the season. The team went on to be defeated in the following tournament game Oct. 22 against Fairbanks.
Three of Northridge’s own players have even received recognition in the Licking County League for their outstanding performance this season. Randall Fox (‘17) received First Team LCL, Mitch Chesser (‘17) received Second Team LCL, and Joey Gump (‘17) received an Honorable Mention.
Coaches, players, and fans of the soccer team say they are already looking forward to next season. Miracle has high hopes for the upcoming season. “We had a pretty young team this year,” he said. “We hope that our young players will come back stronger, faster, and ready to go from the beginning to continue to build on our record.”
VOLLEYBALL

NORTHRIDGE- The Northridge volleyball team has taken momentous strides this season. The passion and effort the players exude on the court is evident. Although the volleyball season has come to a close, their improvement over the course of the season will be remembered, according to Viking volleyball fans.
The highlight of the season for the volleyball team was their performance at Heath. The Vikings took the Heath Bulldogs into five games at the beginning of the season, bringing the stands to their feet. Another outstanding moment was the team’s remarkable game at Licking Valley, where they played three extremely close games. Also, senior McKenna Kitchen (‘17) was recognized as First Team LCL.
Coached by Robin Elliott and assisted by Abbey Bretz, the team has certainly flourished this year, says Bretz. Coach Robin Elliott remarks, “Watching players grow in their positions or moving into new positions and making easy transitions throughout the season was amazing. The team has definitely grown in their abilities.”
One quality that the volleyball team displays each day is team work. “We got to know each other’s habits and became more focused as a team altogether. We all became really close and everyone got along,” says Rachael Harmon (‘17).
Overall, the Northridge volleyball team had a memorable season.

NORTHRIDGE - The Viking Girls Cross Country team made history this year by bringing home the first high school First Place trophy/plaque in Northridge history at the Johnstown Harrier Showdown Invitational. Members of that team, which placed well at nearly every invitational they attended all season, include Megan King (‘19), Makayla Harris (‘20), Riley Bunstine (‘20), Shelby Yorde (‘20), Christina Kiser (‘18), Emma Garee (‘20), Abby Jesenko (‘18), and Anna Edwards (‘18). The girls placed third in the Cardinal Division of the LCL and eleventh out of 29 D3 schools in the Central District.
King was named First Team All LCL and First Team All Central District and advances to Regional competition on Oct. 29.
The Boys Cross Country team placed 10th in their race of 12 schools at the District meet. Every member of their team earned season records at the LCL Championships on Oct. 15.
“We have a lot of heart, and we’re growing in numbers,” said Coach Kim Garee. “I’m so excited already for what next season will bring.”
FOOTBALL

NORTHRIDGE - Headed into this final week of play, the football team’s record is 3-6. Most of the senior’s final reflections on the season could be summed up in this way: “We should have done better, but we’re still proud.”
Most of the team feels that coming out and beating Menford, a 5-1 team at the time, was their best game of the season. Captain Logan Garee (‘17) says, ¨We weren't picked to win that game by anyone, and we went out and proved everyone wrong.¨
The football team faces Utica this weekend to wrap up the season.
GOLF

The golf team ended the season with a record of 90-20, which means they beat 90 teams and lost to 20 in most 18-hole invitationals.
Tyler Rosshirt (‘17) says the season went “pretty well.”
“We made districts for the first time in eight years, so we felt very accomplished.”
Chris George (‘17) added that, “The Northridge Invitational was our best match. It was our own tournament and we won it, so we felt good as a team.”
Rosshirt also said that “it was a great last season of golf for me, and I was proud of our group and what we accomplished.”
