LACROSSE:
New at Northridge
By: Gabrielle Evans
NORTHRIDGE- This spring welcomes a girls lacrosse team that will participate as a club sport for the first time in the high school's history.
The coaches are Greta Finney and Britta Marden, two sophomores at Denison University. They play field hockey at Denison and also played lacrosse in high school. Finney and Marden are from Boston, Massachusetts and Baltimore, Maryland, respectively.
The team itself will consist of about 15 girls, mostly juniors and sophomores and a few freshmen. Anita Schultz ('16), Megan Phillips ('16), Olivia Garrabrant ('17), Donna Snyder ('15), Mackenzie Randall ('17), Audrey Ashbrook ('16), Paige Smith ('16), Kayley McCormick ('16), Emma Dann ('15), Leyna Varney ('16), Mackenzie shoe ('15), Daria Salzano ('15), Haley Macnamara, and Haley Trimble are members of the team who have made a commitment for the spring season.
The team will play schools like Granville, Olentangy, New Albany, and many others.
The girls have been spending the last month or so conditioning to get ready for the season. Conditioning was coached by Mr. Masimer and included a half an hour in the hallways, stretching and running, and a half an hour in the weight room. The exercises are all specific for the muscles the girls will need for lacrosse. Official practices began the week of March 3rd.
Haley Trimble ('16) is a member of the team, and she joined the team because " I'm excited to learn the new sport! I played softball up until last year, and then last year I did track, and that just wasn't for me, so I needed a new sport to play in the spring. So I said why not I'll start lacrosse!"
When asked what she liked about it so far, Trimble responded, "I love the attitude all the girls have about it; we're already a family, and I can tell this season is gonna be so much fun." Trimble is looking forward to learning this new sport, becoming friends with new people, and seeing where it takes them as the season progresses on. Trimble also added "getting to say that I was on the first lacrosse team ever at Northridge is so cool! Maybe I'll come back in 10 years, and the lacrosse team will be undefeated. It's gonna be a lot of fun!"
Donna Snyder ('15) is another member of the team, and she decided to play becuase she wanted to try something new. She said she likes field hockey, and lacrosse is very similar to field hockey. One thing she likes about it so far is " everyone is pretty positive about it, and they encourage everyone to try their best!"

Spring Sports Preview
By: Hunter Adkins
NORTHRIDGE- As spring approaches, all of NHS's spring sport programs are in full swing and planning to be very successful going into this season, even with a new and tougher league.
After last season’s successful but tough ending, the Northridge Baseball team plans to go all the way this year. Matt Simmons (15’) is the varsity catcher for the team, and he says, “I think we have a really good chance of bringing home the league title. I also want us to make it to Huntington Field this year and bring home a state championship.”
The several new additions to the team this year, Simmons said, will be beneficial to the team and "will help us out a lot." New baseball players this year include seniors Jakob Cramer and Nick Walker, and juniors Andrew Hollis, Anthony Hollis, and Trent Baughman. With a new hitting coach too, the boys plan to have a fun year and a very successful one, as well.
With a new head coach for the varsity girls’ softball team, Mike Pankuch, the girls also plan to make it well into tournament play this year. They also are going into a new league with several tough teams, but Mikaela Pankuch (15’) says, “The new league will be good for us and will be better competition. It will help us playing harder teams and prepare us for tournaments.” All of the girls are looking forward to a great season.
The track team has also been preparing for the new season to begin. Track has gained several new members and will be a big team. The new additions will be very helpful says Cortney Schneider (15’), who added, “it will help us have more people in a variety of events and allow people to do more of what they enjoy doing.”
